Job Summary: This job is responsible for handling radioactive materials and operating radionuclide measuring and imaging devices for the purpose of obtaining diagnostic information concerning various bodily functions and structures. Work is conducted under strict safety standards and in accordance with department protocols and regulatory/license requirements. Essential Duties: Operates and maintains quality control for all imaging equipment and radioactivity assaying devices in the Nuclear Medicine Department; calibrates cameras and equipment in accordance with internal protocols; verifies proper operation of equipment prior to use; checks radiation-monitoring devices and advises appropriate parties if problems are identified. Prepares radio-pharmaceuticals for patient use, administers radio-pharmaceuticals to patients and performs nuclear medicine procedures; uses appropriate camera in accordance with internal protocols; ensures that sufficient supplies are on hand to perform procedures; follows safeguards and protocols to ensure quality of results. Operates nuclear medicine computers to enhance the diagnostic value of information obtained from nuclear medicine procedures; follows internal protocols when processing computer studies to achieve high quality films by choice of filters, slice selection, display parameters, image intensity and labeling techniques. Maintains records and logs as required by department protocols and licensure requirements; logs patient dose administered, progress notes and other pertinent data. Disposes of and stores radioactive materials as required by law; stores radioactive materials/waste in appropriately labeled and shielded containers; removes radioactive and waste materials from exam rooms to proper storage or disposal location; surveys waste leaving the ?hot? lab for radiation levels in excess of established standards. The Nuclear Business Unit Master Scheduler is responsible for developing and maintaining the schedule to optimize the use of personnel resources. TECHNICAL SPECIALIST, PHYSICAL SCIENCES FULL-TIME ? ARNOLD CAMPUS FUNCTION The Technical Specialist, Physical Sciences is responsible for the preparation of experiments and demonstrations and maintaining the laboratories for physical science courses offered at the Arnold Campus with a concentration in chemistry. SUPERVISION General Supervision: Department Chair, Physical Sciences Daily Supervision: Laboratory Managers, Chemistry and Physics DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ? Prepare materials for laboratory exercises for all chemistry courses, including preparation of required solutions, reagents, and student unknown samples for exercises and experiments following detailed preparation manuals. Update these manuals as needed. Prepare materials for physics and physical science courses as necessary. ? Responsible for maintaining the physical environment of the laboratories. Keep labs in working order and insure they remain clean and well stocked. ? Follow and enforce established safety policies and comply with collection and storage of hazardous waste procedures. ? Responsible for maintaining and providing operating instructions to faculty and students for chemistry instrumentation including atomic absorption spectrometers, gas chromatographs, and visible range, infrared, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers. ? Assemble required materials for classroom and science outreach demonstrations. ? Monitor inventory of required equipment and supplies. Advise Laboratory Managers of equipment and material needs. ? Communicate with lab staff to insure all materials are available to students and faculty as required. ? Assist Chemistry Lab Manager with purchasing materials and equipment. ? Conduct departmental inventories. ? Provide assistance to faculty and students as required. ? Perform minor maintenance and repairs on equipment as needed. One year of science laboratory experience required. Experience with chemistry lab instrumentation and supporting college-level science labs preferred. Proficiency in the use of PC based computers required and Microsoft Office preferred. Ability to work a 12 month flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, dependent on laboratory schedules and departmental needs. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Reliable, detail oriented and capable of managing time to meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality of testing materials and student records.
