Build it Green Subdivision, Portland Maine

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland

[ROUGH DRAFT: Last update Nov 12, 2008*]

This four home subdivision demonstrates different green technologies and building techniques. All four will be Maine State Housing Authority green certified, one of the homes will be National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Building Program certified and two of the homes will be U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC ) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Homes certified.

At the end of this project we will compare and contrast the NAHB Green Building Program certification and USGBC LEED for Homes certification processes. We will look at the strengths and weaknesses of each green certification process and their pitfalls.

*PLEASE NOTE: This section of EnvironmentalChemistry.com is a work in progress. Normally we would prefer to complete the editing of a new addition before making it live for readers to access. This time, however, so many hundreds of volunteers and companies have been donating time and/or materials to the Habitat for Humanity Demerest ST project that we want them to be able to track the progress as quickly as we can. In this spirit, please excuse the unpolished nature of these pages.
